February 2006
After much investigation, the Department of Transport and Main Roads (then Queensland Transport) purchased the land surrounding the future Varsity Lakes station with the intention of creating a transit oriented community.
- July 2007
- Premier Peter Beattie announces funding for the Robina to Varsity Lakes Rail Extension project.
- October 2007
- Project newsletter 1 delivered to the local community.
- November 2007
- Village Vision released. The Village Vision explains the planning elements of the project. Community asked to provide their comments to the project team.
- March 2008
- Contractors were appointed to assist the Department of Transport and Main Roads (then Queensland Transport) in the development of the draft Master Plan.
An urban design consortium of Deicke Richards and EDAW led the process with additional expert advice provided by a team comprising of Parsons Brinkerhoff, MacroPlan Australia, Maunsell Australia and SGS consulting. - May 2008
A two day Precinct Planning workshop was held with consultants and key stakeholders to determine how the development will work with transport flow, carparking, the mix of residential, retail and commercial and the parks and green spaces- November 2008
- The draft master plan was released for community consultation from 4 November to 5 December 2008. The community and other key stakeholders were encouraged to comment on the draft master plan through the condensed booklet Village Guide.
Newsletter 2 was delivered to the local community. - July 2009
- The final Master Plan was published, incorporating feedback from the community consultation process.
- December 2009
- Varsity Lakes station was opened to the public. The new station was built as part of the Robina to Varsity Lakes Rail Extension project.
